The news of one of the most loathsome characters in the Immigration Debate, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, considering a run at the presidency in 2012 nearly made us spill our morning coffee smack in our lap, if not upchuck our first couple of sips.
I mean, we thought it was some sort of goof at first, or at least something Letterman made up in his Top 10 list.
But, no. If it’s a joke, it’s a cruel one.
In reports this morning, here’s the hot-button quote from the self-proclaimed America’s Toughest Sheriff, who’s heading to the early presidential proving ground of New Hampshire this Sunday to headline the Nashua Republican City Committee lunch.
“I am honored by this invitation to speak to the largest local Republican Party organization in the great state of New Hampshire,” Arpaio, whose idea of fun is rounding up and jailing as many illegal immigrants as possible, said in a statement. “As a native New Englander, I’m looking forward to visiting this state that historically chooses who our next President will be.”
God help us!
