Native Americans Oppose Arizona Anti-Immigrant Law

In response to the grand anti-immigrant rallying cry of, “Go back where you came from,” Native Americans are in a good position to say: “Why don’t you?”

Instead, Native American groups are taking the high road and joining up with immigrant rights organizations to fight on the side of justice and a more welcoming America. Last month, First Nation, an indigenous group, joined up with immigrant rights forces to occupy an Arizona Border Patrol headquarters in protest of SB 1070 and human rights violations. Indigenous groups oppose harsh, “papers, please” laws because they are often used to harass tribal members, forcing them to jump through hoops to prove they are legally in the country.
